History
This is a special school to assist the mentally handicapped and retarded children .It was officially opened on the 10th October 1984 on the premises belonging to testimony faith homes, Eldoret.
The project was initiated by Cllr J.K lesiew who was the mayor of Eldoret, in his capacity as the mayor of Eldoret, Huizen/Bad vibel partnership committee. The committee was set up some years before to foster partnership and cooperation between Eldoret and two other towns Huizen in Holland and Bad vibel in West Germany. As months went by the sister committee in the two European towns felt that it would be good for a new project to be initiated in which also they could be manifested. When this was suggested to Eldoret committee, considerable thought and discussions went into choosing a project, which would be essential and original to the needs of Eldoret and its environs.
Research was done and it provided that services for the mentally handicapped was lacking and further research showed that there was considerable need in our district for assistance in this area.
Eldoret therefore suggested to its sister towns of Huizen and Bad vibel that perhaps they could join hands in setting up a special school facility for the mentally handicapped children.
And so the school was born and named Eldoret Special School for the mentally handicapped. The municipality donated 17 acres of land along Elgeyo border road in kapsoya. In November 1985 the foundation of the first building was laid, that was primary one classroom, special and physiotherapy, toilets and ablutions.
It was built with contributions from the European sister towns already mentioned and from the help of in form of money and materials raised and donated by Eldoret residents, women groups, social action groups,
industries and even school children. More than ksh200, 000/= was raised through this avenue. Eldoret round table raised the cost of the entire roofing cost of the first building ksh 70,000/= and Eldoret women’s group raised more than ksh 42,000/= to mention but a few of the endeavors that have gone into local support of the project..
We started boarding facilities in 1996 with 35 students.
The school has grown and we now have two classrooms (donated by rotary club of Eldoret) two class rooms (donated by rotary club of Bad Vibel and Eldoret.
